Understanding the two types of audio outputs prevents the most common wiring mistakes before they happen.
Built-in 4-channel amplifier
45–50W peak per channel (18–22W RMS — what actually matters). Four outputs: front-left, front-right, rear-left, rear-right. Speaker wire outputs go directly to speakers via the wiring harness. This is sufficient for standard replacement speakers.
RCA preamp outputs
Separate from the speaker wire outputs — these are low-level signals used to feed an external amplifier. RCA outputs go to an external amp, which then drives the speakers. Never connect RCA outputs directly to a speaker.

Wiring an External Amplifier

RCA connections: Front preouts → front amp channels; Rear preouts → rear channels; Sub preout → mono sub amp. Match the RCA output label to the amp channel.
Remote turn-on wire: Run the blue/white stripe wire from the head unit to the amp's remote terminal. This sends a 12V trigger that turns the amp on with the head unit. Do not use the solid blue antenna wire — that's a different function.
Amp ground: Ground the amp to bare chassis metal within 18 inches of the amp location. Never ground the amp to the same point as the head unit — this creates a ground loop and causes audible hum.
