Fix 1: Check the Antenna Connection

If this wire isn't connected to the head unit's antenna remote output, the booster never powers on. The result is either zero signal or an extremely weak signal that picks up only the strongest nearby stations.

Connect the head unit's ANT/MOTOR wire — typically a solid blue wire — to the antenna booster power wire from the car's wiring harness. This is different from the blue/white stripe amplifier remote wire. The solid blue wire is specifically for the antenna circuit. When connected, the booster receives 12V whenever the head unit is on.
Fix 3: Antenna Cable Damage or Wrong Routing
Even with the antenna properly connected and the booster powered, a badly routed or damaged antenna cable will kill reception.

Result: Power wires generate electromagnetic interference that the antenna cable picks up, producing static, hiss, and noise on every station.
Fix: Re-route the antenna cable so it runs on the opposite side of the dash from the 12V power leads and speaker wires. Physical separation is the only reliable fix.
Cable pinched during install
Result: A pinched cable can crack the inner conductor or break the shielding, causing intermittent signal loss or complete signal failure.
Fix: Inspect the antenna cable for any sharp bends or points where it might have been compressed during reinstallation. Replace the cable if the jacket is kinked or cracked.
Fix 4: Tuner Settings and Region Lock
Many Android head units ship from overseas warehouses with the FM frequency range set to a non-US region. European units typically default to 87.5–108 MHz. Japanese units may default to 76–108 MHz. If the region is wrong, your scanner will find either no stations or only a handful of stations at the edges of the dial.
Fix the FM region: Go to Settings → Radio → Region (or Country) → set to Americas or US. This unlocks the correct 87.9–107.9 MHz range used in North America.
Enable AM if needed: Some head units ship with AM band disabled, showing only FM. Look in Settings → Radio for an AM enable toggle or a band selection menu.
Re-scan after changing region: After changing the region, perform a full automatic scan (Settings → Radio → Auto Scan or Seek All) to repopulate the station list.
Fix 5: Firmware and Radio App Issues
If the built-in radio app crashes immediately on launch, shows a blank screen, or freezes when you try to scan, the problem is almost always a firmware bug rather than a hardware fault. Note on third-party radio apps: Apps like Welle.io are internet radio apps — they stream over WiFi, not AM/FM. They won't fix a broken AM/FM tuner. Stick with the manufacturer's stock radio app after a firmware update for true AM/FM reception.
Fix 6: Missing or Wrong Antenna Adapter for Your Vehicle
Certain vehicle manufacturers use proprietary antenna connectors that are not compatible with the standard ISO input on aftermarket head units. Without the correct vehicle-specific adapter, the antenna cable physically cannot connect — which means zero signal regardless of settings or firmware.
GM (Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac): Uses a GM-specific antenna connector — requires a GM-to-ISO adapter.

If you've confirmed the antenna is connected, the booster wire is live, the cable routing is clean, the region is set correctly, and firmware is up to date — and the radio still doesn't work — the tuner module itself may be faulty. This is more common on very inexpensive units (under $80) where quality control is inconsistent.
Test with a factory radio
Reinstall your factory radio in the same car and test AM/FM reception. If the factory radio works normally, the car's antenna system is fine — the fault is in the Android head unit.
Test with a different head unit
If you have access to a spare head unit, plug it in and test. If it also has no radio, the problem may be in the car's antenna wiring or the antenna itself — not the head unit.
Contact the seller
